Nasser Uddin, a man who sexually harassed his 14-year-old neighbor in Lefkoşa (Nicosia), has been sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison. The decision was made by Judge Yağcı Tutku Candaş at the Lefkoşa High Criminal Court.

The crime happened on December 14, 2024. Uddin approached the girl outside her apartment building after her mother sent her to the market. He made inappropriate comments about her appearance, frightening her. When she tried to leave, saying her mother was waiting, Uddin followed her. After she left the market, he harassed her again in public, offering her money and refusing to leave her alone.

Judge Candaş stated that children should feel safe walking on the streets without fear. He called Uddin’s actions unacceptable and stressed that such crimes harm society’s peace and create fear for families. The judge also criticized the current law, which sets a maximum 6-year jail term for child sexual abuse. He argued this punishment is too light to discourage criminals and urged lawmakers to increase penalties.

Uddin was found guilty based on his confession, evidence, and witness accounts. The court unanimously agreed on the 4.5-year sentence after weighing all details of the case.
